Yeah we're all idiots. Especially those of us who made this a career.
Maybe he was making a jab at the President. Maybe he was telling those college students to do well so they wouldn't have to resort to joining the military. He's not the first politician to have his words misconstrued, but any time it happens to people of a different political party everyone calls for a resignation. When I heard the comment for myself, my initial reaction was "And fuck you too". Does he need to resign his office? No. We all say things that come out wrong; there are worse things he could do. Then again, if he meant to slam the military I don't think he should vote on ANYthing to do with the military. Believe it or not, military people are still citizens and have the right to vote. They matter. I met some genuine rocks and rocket scientists (and everyone in between) while in the Navy. And the same people are out in the civilian world too.
(aside: can you imagine how smart even the dumbest rocket scientist is? The one all the other rocket scientists pick on?)
