LEARNING SPELLS
-Player characters only learn spells after you've got the spirit for that element! There is also a requirement for some spells- Hawk needs a boost to Agility, Angela needs a boost to Intelligence, I can't remember if there's anything else right now, but point is they need those to learn spells as well.

-The spirits appear (rising from the individual) when a character casts. It's implied that they come along with you as well- Wisp says "So I'll come with you and help save the Mana!". The spirits also appear as a ring choice in the field when talking to certain objects (the waterfall, the Goddess statue in the Cleft of Earth, the fallen boulder, Moonflower).

-…that said, none of the spirits appear when Hawk casts. :|a

Some specific spells:
-Magic Counter: The little Hood-beasts (can't remember what they're called right now; gotta go through whatsthenameoftheforest again) cast(/use?) this; so does Mispolm, the Benevodon/GodBeast/boss of whatstheforest. This basically nerfs any spells you cast on the Hood-beast/Mispolm (throws them back? I really can't remember right now). I keep thinking it should have a time limit (Wall, which is basically the same thing just from SD2/Secret of Mana, that one does) but either I've beaten down the hoodbeasts or Mispolm's cast it again and thus I've never figured out if that's actually right. :|a

…I think someone does get to cast it in the party, but that's one of the paths I never take so. I've never tested that.

-Aura Wave: As I recall, this fills a character's hit gauge? I don't use it much and don't pick that class much so no real thoughts. I can't recall enemies using it- the hoodbeasts in whatever forest use an item with the same effect, I think, but that's all. (Grell Oil?)

Jutsu vs. spells:
-There's nothing really specified about this stuff in-game (I don't know about Heroes of Mana, but Heroes of Mana uses a different engine anyway so I doubt it would be of use anyway). However, I think that if you mentioned to someone from Navarre- probably one of the Guild's ninjas, we see pretty much no one else (Hawk's Light class is Ranger, but the skills there and in the following classes appear in monsters, not human foes […not that there are a lot of those])- that the jutsu were equivalent to Altena's magic, you'd get snubbed. It's sort of snobbery, partly 'we're not them'.

-Besides, the jutsus have their added effects. There is a set of spells that have secondary effects (Stone Cloud, don't remember the others offhand)- but again, those are only really seen in the God-Beasts/Benevodons, not human foes/Wizards.

-It's my belief that Hawk needs a target. The Water and Earth jutsus most definitely (sand cyclone, waterfall). Thunder and Fire he could possibly get away with not having one, although I'm not so sure about Fire.

-It's easier to see Angela being a bit looser.
