Weekend

Weekend was good, but short.

Academic Team Meet on Saturday morning. Successful, but fairly uneventful. Afterwards went to an antique store and to look at a house with my parents. They've apparently found the floorplan that they want to use for their place on the river and the builder recently constructed the exact same house. The girl living in said house teaches with my mom, her mother-in-law was went to school with my mom and that woman's mother is the same lady that got my mom the scholarship that enabled her to go to college. You got that?

Yeah, me neither.

Anyway, afterwards I went back to mom and dad's and we proceeded to start scraping paint off of the cabinet. LAYERS of paint. Six of them to be exact. We worked on it Saturday and Sunday a total of 8 hours and got the back and both sides completely scraped down. As I have no plans for this next weekend, I'm hoping to get to work on it earlier and get at least all of the scraping done by Sunday evening next. That way I'll be able to wipe it down with mineral spirits and let it dry before we take the power sander to it. Right now I'm sore, my hands are swollen and my back aches something awful from leaning over. That being said, I'd rather be down in the shop working on the cabinet with my dad than stuck at work with nothing to do. I've enjoyed the time that we've been able to spend on it and I know that when it's all done that it's going to be something I'll be proud of as well as a piece that I can look at for years to come and know that I made with my dad. It's very fulfilling and it makes me realize how much I've missed my parents without even knowing it.

Saturday night was game. I'll rant about that later. It went well but I get the feeling that not everybody is playing it on the same level. I'm hoping to improve that with workshops and more narrator type involvement.

Sunday, well, more scraping, did some laundry, some dishes and made a homemade chicken pot pie. It was really good and I'm happy at how well it turned out. Not only that, but making it from scratch took less time than it takes to fix those little craptastic ones that you keep in the freezer.

In short, I'm proud of myself, I'm achy, and I'm ready to go home for lunch and eat leftovers. Cheers!
