Give Me Your Art! (and rambling)

Aug 29, 2007 15:11

First of all: suggest an artist or a particular work of art that you love. Please? It would make me happy.

Secondly: a post! In which I ramble on and on about art, what I need to do in the next week, clothing and music.

So the seasons are changing and, as usual, my attention turns to redecorating my home and buying new clothing. I need new clothes like I need a hole in my head, but my dad gave me a 30% off coupon at my favorite store and told me to go pick something out since I didn’t ask for any clothes for my birthday. This may be hazardous to his bank account and my husband’s sanity, but really who are we kidding here? It’s going to be Autumn soon and I’ve seen a lovely pumpkin colored corduroy jacket and a pair of black stiletto heeled pointed toed boots that have my name written all over them.

I really love the fall. The weather’s amazing, the temperature’s reasonable and you can really wear the best clothes. I’m finally able to pull out all of those fitted jackets and scarves and v-necked sweaters that have been languishing in the giant wardrobe in our extra bedroom and wear them again. Of course, I need to go through and put away all of my summer clothes first, but one thing at a time, right?

As I’m sure most of you know, I’m a big art person. My art tastes range far and wide. We have everything on our walls from vintage French advertising posters to black and white prints of Byzantine architecture brought back overseas from Czechoslovakia to Mexican pottery to an amazing abstract of “Girl with a Pearl Earring” bought on our honeymoon. There’s also some nicely framed mirrors, a handsome painting that Brandon’s mom painted before I was even born, some architectural photographs, autographs from Batman villains, the first appearance of wolverine and posters from the movies “Fantomas” and “Nosferatu”.

As you might be able to tell, Brandon and I have eclectic tastes.

But one thing that’s constant is that we don’t have enough art to fill the walls of the house that we’re living in now. We had plenty for when we were back in a small apartment, but now the walls of the dining room look bare, we don’t have hardly anything in the upstairs hallway and the bedrooms are completely void of any decoration other than the fireplaces.

I’m considering ordering some prints from Art.com but I’ve never used them before. Have any of you ordered through that site before? If so, did you buy your items already framed or get them framed once you had the pieces? I love buying art and would easily drop a few hundred bucks for the right piece if it struck me in particular, but I always feel like my heart’s going to stop when I shell out $100 or more just for framing and matting said artwork.

Anyway, I’m considering buying a few pieces by Modigliani, in particular his Gypsy Woman with Baby, which I really, really love.

But I’m rambling at this point. Suggest some artists you know and love. Give me links, show me pictures. Tell me what I should fill my walls up with. I’m always looking for something new and beautiful to grace my home.

Also, while running errands for the firm today I popped my She Wants Revenge CD in which I haven't listened to in a while. What a great album. I hope they come out with another one soon. Apparently Panic! At the Disco should have a new CD out by early next year. Let's hope it just isn't as crappy as the Killer's second album.

Finally, I have absolutely GOT to finish doing laundry and pick out paint colors for the dining room by this weekend. If I don't decide on a paint color soon then I'm just going to go fuck it and buy a new rug for the foyer instead of paint. Also I need to get dad's truck and pick up that bed from Amberlina. I'm also hoping that I can convince B's mom that she wants to part with the chest that's just sitting in her dining room. I'm convinced it would look amazing in our bedroom.

So that's pretty much it. Been watching a lot of TapOut lately since Versus has been having marathons, and it makes me excited for the new season of Ultimate Fighter. I like Matt Serra, but Hughes is still my boy. And I'm interested to see one of our WoW guildmates on television. Very cool.

Anyway, I've got mail to get out and more errands to run. I know I'm awful about leaving comments or responding to the ones that folks leave in my journal, but I do think about y'all all the time and I do read your journals too. I'm just a spaz with no excuse.

Which reminds me...I still need to send out those change of address and thank you notes. Oy.
