One of my first anime purchases (back in the late 80s) was a 1987 Japanese animation magazine (Animage) that came with a cookbook insert that featured these characters. I didn't know what they were, but I liked the look of the characters (anthro foxy-looking dog as Sherlock Holmes=Yay). Only later did I learn it was a Hayao Miyazaki themed cookbook! Still have it.
