Skipping Thursday to Friday - July 18th, 2008

When we were at Sprouts Farmer's Market earlier in the week we picked up a magazine about hiking. Most of the trails were quite a ways up north, but Brian found one trail listed that was only about 30 minutes away in the Superstition Mountains. We actually already knew about the trails in the Superstitions, but never hike them in the summer since the mountains are desert. What was interesting about this particular article, however, was the idea of hiking on a full moon. Friday, July 18th happened to be a full moon. We decided to do it.

We both had new hiking shoes in preparation for Belize. We also had both bought these insanely bright little flashlights in anticipation of using them on the Cave & Jungle tour in Belize - until we realized we'd be hiking through a river and would have lights affixed to our hardhats. Then on Brian's birthday when we were getting lamb at CostCo we saw these off-brand camelpacks for $20 a piece that carry a little over a gallon of water. Brian's is blue and mine is green =) Oh, and we had also gotten a collapsable bowl for the puppies!

So Brian got home from work and we waited for the sun to go down. We geared up and herded the dogs into Brian's car and headed out. There were already about four or five vehicles parked at the trail head. We ran into a bunch of other couples on their way back down as we hiked up. We talked to one of them and turns out they had read the same exact article in the magazine we got at Sprouts. We barely did need our flashlights with the moon so full, but we did end up losing the trial for a little bit. And Sadie got her snout covered in cactus needles. It was fun. We figure we for sure got a four mile hike in, one way, and we turned around pretty early since Brian works on Saturdays.
