In less than two weeks, the price of butter at Trader Joe's has gone up by almost $2.

This might not seem like a big deal to most people, but it is to me. I eat a lot of butter. Here at home, I make quesadillas fried in butter. I eat flour tortillas with melted butter. And margarine won't do. It has to be real butter.

I go to T.J.'s all the time. I'm there every other day at least, and often two days in a row. When I go grocery shopping, I rarely buy more than a few things at a time because if I do, some of my food ends up going bad before I have a chance to eat it. So I'd rather shop more frequently than end up throwing food away. This is especially true of T.J.'s, because most of their food is healthy and doesn't contain preservatives.

Since I go in so often, I know their prices and I know when the prices go up. A year or so ago, the price of Trader Joe's butter was $1.79 a pound (4 sticks). Then it went up to $1.99, which was still almost $2 less than you'd pay at Ralph's. This past week I was surprised to see the price had been raised by a whole dollar: $2.99. I wasn't happy about it, but I still bought it.

A few days later I happened to be at a Von's buying a few items, and out of curiosity I checked to see what they were charging for butter. One brand was on special for $3.49 with your Von's club card, but the rest were more expensive. So at $2.99, T.J.'s still had the best price.

So I go to T.J.'s again yesterday, and the price of butter has been raised to a whopping $3.79 a pound! It hadn't even been a week since it went up by $1. Now it's actually cheaper to buy butter at Von's, assuming they're still having a sale.
And I understand that prices go up. I'm just surprised T.J.'s raised the price so fast. I'm disappointed in them.
