A ray of sun, or a spotlight malfunction?

Today began like an average work day, though I suppose slightly better, as I realized that today is in fact a Friday.

Work was "eh." Class was "eh," as I had to do oral exams with my fav. first year class, not chat with them per usual.

But AFTER class...

I am proud of myself. I have talked with three people I do not normally interact with, in Japanese, and *I* initiated the conversations.

Everyday a woman comes to the teacher's room at school and sells some supplamentry foods and drinks on behalf of some large supplier. I always glance up at her and nod, or smile, or somehow recongize her existance though I never buy anything. But today I said konnichiwa, and I got a reply. Infact, she continued to tell me about how today was her last day coming to Kozukata, because she was quiting. She works two jobs currently, and decided it was too much. I got to thank her for her hard work up until now, and wished her luck.

One conversation down, two to go!

I talked to Suzuki sensei, a guy who sits 2 rows in front of me. He teaches history (and I think geography) to the sophmores. We tried to talk on graduation day last week, but were inturrupted. So I continued our conversation about Swing music. He had never heard it before, so I brought along my mp3player.

And lastly, when I went to buy my lunch, I also bought some dai...dai-something-yaki, which basically japanese donuts. While they were cooking, the merchant and I got to talking, and it ends up he has a frined that lives in Michigan, along one of the lakes, though he doesn't know which one. He thought it was pretty funny that I moved from the U.S to small-town-Yahaba.

Normally I feel happy and proud because of my students accomplishments. Its been awhile since it was about me.
