YES! I bought some "Bauernwolle" yesterday and tried to felt it and IT DID!
I knit a swatch about 22sts and 12 rows (yeah, I forgot to count before felting) that measured 19x14cm. It felted at 60°C to a swatch 15x9cm. I tossed it into the dryer where it shrunk to 14x8cm. I knit it garter stitch on addi 9mm needles when it's supposed to be knit on 3.5-4mm needles. I think if I went down to 6 or 7mm needles the felted fabric would be nicer and less "holey". If you stretch it now you can still kind of tell where the stitches where too open.
So now I can finally stock up on feltable wool and knit myself a pair of felted slipper socks, and a bag, and a hat, and and and ....
