Just read a story where magical Character A has their power taken away before it is revealed that they are pregnant with a magical baby that could kill them if the baby goes to term.  But Character A is determined to have the baby, so drama and the baby is born and will-they-make-it?.  They both do, and then the character that took away A's power comes back and says they're now worthy because they were so selfless w/ the baby.

Which isn't anything terrible, though I'm pretty sure having a baby does not magically make you a better person, but my real problem was the conversation at the end, which implied that if A hadn't tried to carry the baby as long as possible, it would have confirmed they were a bad person.  I don't like the idea that it was only in confirming that they valued their unborn child's life more than their own they were redeemed.  (A was bad for other things, but I wouldn't have added that to the tally.)  And I really don't like the assumption ALL the characters had in the story that the unborn baby was intrinsically more valuable than the mother.
