On Vox: Fish Fry

Sep 23, 2007 07:33

Amid the insanity a week ago, we decided to buy a fish tank. Staring at fish was one of the activities that F was noted to do at school, plus it was recommended in a couple of my books as a way for highly sensitive or introverted individuals to zone out and re-energize.

So I bought a five gallon hex tank on Tuesday with a self starter kit and a few plants and on Tuesday I went back and bought a couple of fish. F was melting down, so I did it all by myself and picked out two female Dalmation Mollies. I'd decided on tropical fish because they seem to have smaller space requirements than goldfish.

Yesterday I was reminded that Mollies and some other tropicals are live bearing fish. I was startled to see a couple of fish fry swiming around the tank. Where did they come from? Ah! ooops. It looks like we got six fry (unless the ladies ate some before I saw them) and four have already ended up in the filter. Isn't life grand?
