People were telling me though that because it's eye candy it's a huge system hog.

Yeah I've only run it on my desktop, here are the specs:

2.7ghz Dual-core A64
2gb ram
7900GT
74gig Raptor

I would imagine that not everyone's experiences would be as good as mine, but apparently it will run on older systems too.

I'm not sure, it's an ongoing project. The most recent upgrade was the Opteron 165, that was about 165 bucks. Before that... the ram, which cost me about 80 bucks. Not that much all together.
