This is just the beginning of the routing of arts and culture in Canada. We have a prime minister who is a machine -- he is unable to appreciate certain things, and even more importantly, is unable to have any kind of insight into why other people appreciate the things he cannot understand. He is an enemy of things he does not understand, and he is profoundly puzzled by art. He lives in a sterile, unhappy world, and his greatest desire in life is to drag all Canadians into that world with him.
Leadership at the gallery is obviously troubled. They have a new position that doesn't seem to have any responsibilities yet. (coughcoughpolitical??cough cough). And why is the boss in Venice at a time when key staff are being let go? If I worked at the gallery, the message would be clear to me -- the boss doesn't care about staff very much.
