I love how Republican presidential candidates have come out with health care plans. What I love even more is how inane they are. Both Romney and Giuliani have proposed the same thing: making health care plans tax deductible. Why is that idiotic? Because the people who don't already spend money on health care plans are the ones that are uninsured and on the whole these people tend to be poor (in other words they pay so little in taxes that it won't help them). In fact Brookings recently released a study that showed that even if the government subsidized half of American's health care costs the number of people insured would increase by 2%. Obviously the majority of the uninsured aren't close to being in a financial situation where they can afford health care and hence a tax deduction isn't going to help them much. Furthermore their plans would only go to subsidize further health care spending by the wealth. We already spend more than any country as it is. What surprises me is that the Republicans are discussing the inefficiencies in our current government run programs. Of course to do so might draw attention to the fact that they are largely responsible for such inefficiencies: after all they are the ones who passed a law preventing the government from negotiating drug prices amongst other really stupid things (i suspect I've already put you all to sleep).

In other news Obama is coming to town on Sept. 7 and tickets are 25$. Rachel and I are going and you know I am excited.
