I'm on the path for a big article on what Obama's stimulus bill might do for U of C science funding, and so yesterday I called like a million people - U of C professors and bigwigs at Argonne and Fermilab.
They all managed to call me back today at the most hilariously inconvenient times. Starting at 8 AM when the first guy called and woke me up and I was like "...bzuh?" like, who the fuck is calling me from Fermilab? THEN the next guy called as I was getting dressed, so I was running around trying to find my notebook and just gave up and interviewed him in my underwear...and he was chatty, so it lasted partway into class time, natch.
Another one called during my class. THEN after class the next professor called when I was in the bathroom. THEN I was free, but no one called until the moment I parked my butt in for my free lunch (sponsored by the good folks at our computer services who were paying me in food to complain) THEN all the other people called when I was at work.
SCHEDULE YOUR TIMES AROUND ME PLEASE kthanks
That's the problem being a student reporter, I have no fixed schedule and more importantly am not at my desk all day or even indoors, people are always calling me back when I'm walking around campus, like, this is not summer, I cannot stand outside and take notes while you talk, WAIT while I dash for a building
...I bitch, but it's fun work. Much better than schoolwork for example.
hilarity,
maroon
