CHARACTER
✧ NAME: Maria Thorpe
✧ SERIES: Assassin's Creed
✧ HISTORY:
Boom ✧ TIMELINE: After her parting words to Altaïr in Jerusalem
✧ PERSONALITY:
In her younger years, Maria was somewhat of a dreamer, wanting to find honour and glory for herself and leave England to join the Crusades in the Holy Land. She was very stubborn, refusing to conform to societal norms such as being a lady such as leaving her husband after a year of marriage after her parents forced her into it. Eventually this wanderlust became too much and she did leave to chase her dreams.
Maria is greatly determined as one would have to be to travel so far from their home and disguise themselves to join a cause. She showed a lot of passion to rise through the Templar ranks. When she confronted Altaïr in Jerusalem, she showed that she could command mercilessly and straightforwardly although she was perhaps arrogant and overconfident regarding Robert's cause although considering the position he had placed her in and her dedication, her attitude is understandable. Her personality is somewhat merciless and harsh, especially towards Altaïr due to him being an Assassin and her combat style reflects this.
✧ ABILITIES/POWERS:
Maria demonstrates that she's skilled with a blade - enough so to reach quite high in the Templar ranks as she became Robert de Sable's steward and she was good enough to be able to block and counter Altaïr's attacks.
She shows limited free running skills later in the series but because she doesn't demonstrate that in her current timeline.
That's pretty much it really, no fancy powers here. Oh wait, she knows how to disguise herself as a bald French dude.
✧ TIME OF ARRIVAL: Day
✧ MASK DESIGN:
Maria's mask is actually a male's mask which, considering her role in the Templars is fitting and has red and white, the Templar colours.
✧ PLACE OF SOLACE:

✧ FIRST PERSON:
It's been so many years now since I left England, wide eyed and ready to chase my dreams, dreams of glory and honour. The dreams young boys should have, not young girls if my parents are to be believed. Not that their opinions have ever mattered to me overly much but now, such a great distance from them they matter less and less as I have found my place in the world. Yes, my position could be described as tenuous at times - there are those who would seek to remove me from my position - but I have earned it. I have fought hard, trained hard, as hard as any of these men if not harder and I sweated and bled alongside them and caught Robert's eye long before he knew the truth of me and now that there are those who do know my secret I fight even harder to prove time and time again that I am worthy of this.
Which is why I ride to Jerusalem tomorrow with a detachment of some of Robert's best men, men I can trust who will not flinch or yield and who will hunt down our target should he seek to flee, that Assassin Altaïr who has cut down so many of our Order. Eight of them so far and in the guise of Robert, I will be attending the funeral of Majd Addin, late Regent of Jerusalem. It is too perfect an opportunity for the Assassin to resist and he has proved more daring and more bold with each successive target, striking them down one by one and he will want Robert dead.
I will not allow this to happen.
While it is true that not all of his beliefs are my own, I owe him a great deal and above that I respect him more than any other man I have encountered in my life and I will not let him down. If it comes to it, I will lay down my life in the fight that is sure to occur at this funeral; if I buy him the time he needs to plead his case, then none of it will have been in vain.
✧ THIRD PERSON:
It was far too hot beneath the heavy helm she wore as she kept watch at the funeral, looking out for those familiar robes. Eight had been felled already by this man and she attended the funeral of one of them at this very moment although in the guise of another. The plan was a clever one and beneath the layers of chainmail and tunic and amongst her fellow Templar, no one would suspect that it was not, in fact, Robert De Sable at all and instead Maria Thorpe, his personal steward.
All of this far exceeded the dreams she had once had as a young girl in England, dreams of glory and honour and being what she wanted to be, what had marked her as different from all the others. And now she had found it and more, thanks to her drive, her determination. Robert had seen her promise and where others might have sent her back or dismissed her merely for being a woman, he had seen past that, seen her true potential and had placed his trust in her. She would live up to that and more to buy him the time he needed to convince the armies to lay waste to Masyaf, home of the Brotherhood of Assassins and regain the treasure from Solomon's Temple.
She studied the mass again, face set behind her helm.
There! That hood, so known throughout the Knights Templar. Quickly she signalled the funeral proctor and then it was a matter of seconds before the other Templars she had brought with her were dispatched to chase him down, her following suit as she shouted commands to them.
She would carry out her role in this and allow Robert's plan to succeed. With a cry she charged forward, sword raised and utterly unafraid. Let this assassin show her how truly skilled he was.
