In the job world you're expected to talk about your accomplishments. But what if your accomplishments have no relevance?

Cue my dilemma. The things I'm most proud of are things I can't imagine anyone but me would care about. So I don't talk about them out loud to most people.

For instance, I completed my state quarters collection recently.

I forget when I started it, probably a few years ago. At times I felt completing it was impossible. Still, I persevered. I didn't give up. And my determination paid off. Admirable qualities, right?

Similarly, I started another project earlier this year. In my Pokemon Black DS game-ok, I should explain Pokemon's appeal to this 24-year-old man. Admittedly the gameplay itself of Pokemon has lost its hold on me. One (and only one) feature in the game had absorbed my attention lately: think of it as a database.

The aim of the feature, the Geonet globe, is to have a complete list of every country in the world. Some countries also have individual regions. So not only would you "collect" every country, but also all the regions.

Never did I think I'd get as far as I have; my progress is on my youtube vid here (yes, a youtube account for Pokemon. hope i haven't scared off any professionals).

And to get a sense of the enormity of this task, know that there are over 600 Pokemon in Pokemon Black. Meaning a person can search each Pokemon individually, which, as you can imagine, is incredibly time-consuming.

Not all 600+ Pokemon are available in your "database" right away though. Some Pokemon data can only be obtained by linking to another DS with the older games.

For me I only had ~420 Pokemon to work with. The fun of it was manipulating the searches to maximize my finds, predicting which country might be found with which Pokemon. I developed a systematic process and only resorted to searching all ~420 Pokemon individually toward the end as the project got more complete.

Another Pokemon-related instance illustrating my ability to "get things done" is that there are 3 unobtainable Pokemon in Pokemon Black: Genesect, Keldeo, and Meloetta. However, knowing that something can't be done just makes me try harder and brainstorm ways to make the impossible possible. And just last week(?) I got those Pokemon: the Internet has all the answers.

What's more, that database also makes it possible for any person to obtain all 600+ Pokemon.
