I can't suggest strongly enough that you play something, if you can at all manage and enjoy it. Preferably something relatively casual and "homework"-light.
I've always found that it not only made me feel less of the GM isolation that you mention, but helped me remember what's fun (and not fun) for players. If I don't PC for a while, I worry that my writing and running will suffer.
That was exactly my thought. What do players find fun, remember what it is like to be a player.
I did not factor in the isolation. I didn't feel that in Realms, but I had other support structures then, and the games were a different thing to run than this.
I just don't know what the hell to play. Nothing that is currently running is screaming my name. And I don't play casual, so that's hard.
What I want is the drop kick into my character's head and the connection to the other players on profound level. I think I miss Helen. A lot.
And I hear you. I like the balance I've found. But it would be tough to back down to this "middle management" sort of level from where you are now. I'm writing and running plots, and helping others with theirs, but only as many as I can handle.
I wouldn't mind playing a one-shot apocalypse style game, just to be a player for once. That might help you.
I have some problems with Covenant. I am a practicing Shaman. In my real life. You have a Shamanic class. I don't think what is written will work for me.
Also, I want the community I know right now. I don't have it in me to meet what amounts to all new players, I don't think.
No worries - just putting it out there. My favorite part is our own player base, so I totally get that part. I hope you can find something that works for you so you can kick back and enjoy yourself a bit.
In character all weekend. Campaign style. I prefer the whole game to be united in some fashion rather than player against player. I loved Embers for the Campaign style/everyone must band together against the enemy, even though they were not in character all weekend

I guess my real question is would you rather play a Phonomancer in a modern urban fantasy setting OR would you rather play a space pirate?

Phonomancer or Space Pirate? Why can't I be both? :)

I hope you find something that suits.

You CAN be both, but I'm just trying to get a feel for what I should prioritize ;)
