National Gaurd in New Orleans given shoot to kill orders

I just read this in the online news that the Governor of Louisiana has given National Guard troops orders of "Shoot and Kill" to end the "rampant violence in New Orleans". What is this situation during into? I know that there is violence taking place in New Orleans. However, as a veteran what ever happened to the rules of engagement Fire if Fired

No disagreement here about the response and actions taken by Nixon, Bush Sr, and Clinton. I was stationed at the NAS in Belle Chase just south of New Orleans in the late 80's and we had a cat 3 hit us in 88. Certain area's of New Orleans started to flood and we were ordered into the city to rescue people in chest high water before the storm had even passed and that was during the Reagan years. There was none of this "Help is on the way" shit.

I was watching the news earlier today when this jackass landed in Mbile Bay, his tour consisted of standing in a well secured hanger talking to the mayor, the governor, and the commanding officer of the Coast Guard command. Now he is starting to point fingers and trying lay blame on the mayor of New Orleans and the Governor of Louisiana because he feels they didn't ask for help soon enough. What the Fuck? They were begging for help last Friday when they knew the storm was going to hit them.

And your very pointed observation about his behavior and lack of concern is right to the point. I just have not got around to writing about that as yet because I have been so angry about this whole thing that I have been at a loss for words to express my feelings. One thing I did pick up from the news in regards to how long it took for Dubya and company to get up off of their collective fat asses and get down to the Gulf Coast is 4 days 4 hours and 48 minutes. I make another posting here shorting on things that I have picked up watching and reading the news reports.
