Life can be interesting...

If you do it right.

And then there's the old Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times."

My life is full, but not currently frantic, and that's a good thing.

Life is almost always interesting, though. Staying very busy at the office, but not much outstanding going on as far as work goes. One of my co-workers has whiplash from getting hit by a drunk driver, and another has a sister in hospital from the same thing, but it hasn't happened to me yet (well, not in the past 25 years), and I'm doing my best to avoid that.

Because of California's budget problems, we get to work monday (Columbus Day - normally a holiday), but because there won't be mail delivery, I get to catch up on other stuff. That should be fun. Well, unless the boss comes up with yet another 'extra' task for me. And they ask why I never get some stuff done...

Music is also going pretty well.

The monday night band is getting ready to record a CD of originals, and the leaders seem to like the cover art I designed. We expect to do the actual recording at the end of his month, and perhaps the beginning of next. I'm not sure how long it'll take, or how many tracks there will be ebtirely, but the ones we're rehearsing are all good. I'll need my valve trombone for at least one of them, though, as it's a beast!

The sunday night band is also fun, and becoming a touch more regular. A whole bunch of people showed up last week when I was filling in there (my co-workers seemed to like mom), and that was oodles of fun. Including my brother's new Significant Other, who seems to be a really good lady. And now that the bone section leader there knows I also play bass trombone, the number of calls from him should be higher.

The wednesday night band progresses apace. There are still some small personnel problems, but things are getting better almost every week (well, ever other week, as we only rehearse every other week). The last time our drummer got sick about 40 minutes in, but until then the band sounded great.

And with my personal library up to 284 charts, I spend all of my time trying to keep it organized. But it keeps me busy.

Politics is always amusing, in its own bizarre way.

Health care reform is still uncertain. The people have made it very clear that we want significant reform, but the corporations that pull the strings are doing everything they can to keep that from happening. The Bogus ... err "Baucus" bill has gotten a lot of coverage, which is odd as it is only one of 6 HCR bills out there, and the worst of the bunch. But tempers are getting unruly, and words are being thrown, and the media (save for Faux Noise Channel) are pretending it's nothing interesting. Well, except for Olbermann and Maddow. And Bill Moyers.

And Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize, which is very interesting and very amusing. Amusing mostly for the reactions of the (dis)loyal opposition.

And Rush Limbaugh wants to buy the Rams. I wonder if anyone good will want to work for him? Of course, the Rams haven't won a game in over a year, and they're destined to be as bad as the Rangers were when Bush Jr. was part owner, but it should be amusing to watch. And seeing him as a "Miss America" contest judge just shows how liberal the media really is.

It's all very interesting.
