So 3 or 4 days ago, my mom is down at our other house (in downtown Mukilteo) picking pears as I'm working. I work at the house 8 hours everyday monday through friday, and I've known for a while that these pears are the most delicious pears in the world, and I'm wondering why she is taking my beautiful pears away from me. "I'm going to can them tomorrow" she says to me when I ask. I'm ecstatic when I hear the good news. The only thing better than fresh pears off of a tree, is pears skinned and soaking in sugar water for long periods of time.
Tonight, I couldn't help myself. I had to have a jar of my precious pears but alas, no cottage cheese to go along with them. At 10:00 when I left from Liz's, I had told myself I was going to pick some up, but I forgot... I think to myself, "It's 12:00... the only thing on Adult Swim that I'd miss (while making a quick trip to the store) is Squidbillies." So I go for it.
At QFC, I remember that I hadn't eaten dinner, and pears might not satisfy "The Hunger" and the first thing I see of course is the deserts. "FUCK" I think, now I have to get that superb looking chocolate cherry mini boston cream puff. So I do pick up the superb looking chocolate cherry mini boston cream puff, and of course... my cottage cheese.
I go up to the only open register, and realize that no one is there. No tellers, and no customers. Then a chubby little bald man wearing a green jacket who looks like he's tweaking out comes up to me in the register isle and he takes my (priceless) merchandise, without saying a word, and walks one register over. He takes a bag and puts my stuff in it, and says "Have a nice day" I stand there for a minute and wonder why this little bald man in a green jacket doesn't want my money in exchange for these items that I would have paid triple for.
I walk out and think "Should I call the cops and tell them that I saw a man in QFC boasting no logo of his employment whatsoever giving me free merchandise, so that they may check out the situation and confirm for me that he isn't a serial murderer?" But then I decide to think that he was just expressing a great act of kindness, and decided against it.
I'm sure having heard of the situation, it doesn't sound as weird to you as I thought it was. But I had to come home and tell someone, and I don't want to wake anyone up.
My pears are amazing.
