i got my wireless to work at the coffee shop, so i don't have to use the stupid library comps with all their restrictions!
so, P.I.-T.W.A.T. '06 is in full swing. (that's what we refer our intern groups as: Performance Interns - Theatrical Working Artists and Technicians.)
so, i guess now i'll post all my journal entries i saved on WORD up to date.
5/22 - Day One:
I met up with Jason Cook in Portland to begin our journey after a morning of packing. He and Casey Pratt were getting the last of his things packed up. We loaded Casey’s car and headed out in a small two-car caravan to Brunswick.
When we arrived, we nervously approached the MSMT building. We walked in and greeted Kathi and Joyce. We were welcomed with totes and packets of information. We headed from the office to the intern house, in the process of which we got lost a couple times, mainly because our directions were wrong. However, when we found the house, Jason and I were delighted to find that the amenities were much nicer than we had expected. We spent the next hour or two rearranging the furniture and unpacking our things. Bobby Wilcox was our third roommate, which was a nice surprise, because it called for less breaking-the-ice than had we to meet someone new right off the bat.
We had auditions the first night. It was good for all the performance interns to get a chance to meet each other, even though stress levels were high and we were already exhausted. I feel that my audition went pretty well. I sang two of my strongest songs, and My voice sounded good.
5/23 - Day Two:
We had a meeting in the morning, a sort of meet and greet with muffins and coffee. It was a good chance for us to meet all of the people working on South Pacific. We also had our first music rehearsal. The boys learned two songs, “Bloody Mary,” and “Nothin’ Like a Dame.” I was excited to get started. After that rehearsal, we had a reading of the first block of scenes. Chuck assigned lines to the interns and we prepared for our first blocking rehearsal.
5/24 - Day Three:
We were called for rehearsal at 10am and we started blocking “Bloody Mary.” The process was a nice change. Everything was so professional. We got a break at the first hour and 20 for 10 minutes and everything was scheduled and budgeted. Having just finished the rehearsal process of Gypsy at Portland Players, which was ENTIRELY not the same feeling of professionalism. Michelle, the choreographer, told us to remember all of the blocking and ography so we wouldn’t have to go over it again, and it just helped cement that fact that we’re doing professional theater, and not being prepared is not acceptable.
5/25 - Day Four:
This was the second day of rehearsals. We blocked the other male company number, “Nothin’ Like a Dame.” We also went over everything over and over again to cement it. It was a long day of rehearsals, starting at 10 and ending at 5, but we accomplished a lot in that period of time. I am also getting a lot closer with the interns. We’re bonding a lot, and I feel very comfortable with a lot of the people I’m living and working with. This evening we had a potluck dinner and met our “angels.” Angels are volunteers who help out the interns in any way they can. My angel’s name is Bertha and she lives in Westbrook.
5/26 - Day Five:
We blocked some smaller crossover scenes with the ensemble today. I cross and deliver a line and exit. We also ran the numbers that we’d blocked before. I had to miss the auditions for Seussical because the production that I’m in at Portland Players, (Gypsy) is still running. Joyce is going to have me audition sometime in the next couple days, though. Everything should work out in the end, I’m sure. The production of Gypsy went well… My mom came and saw it tonight, and she really enjoyed it.
5/27 - I’m going to stop counting the days now.
Got to sleep in. My first call wasn’t until 11:30, however, I was cut from that scene, because I apparently am too old to play a native child. My next call was at 1:30 for a wardrobe fitting. That was a lot of fun. I tried on a lot of khaki for my Navy uniform. I also tried on a wrap for a native character, which I’m not sure whether or not I’ll even be playing, but I hope so, because that would be a lot of fun. I had another performance of Gypsy tonight, which allowed me to get out of helping in the shop. Everyone said that it only took an hour and it wasn’t hard work. Wil Kilroy was at the production, and he had a group of non-theater people who are taking an intro class. Apparently, they enjoyed the show. Personally, I felt it was my best performance.
5/28
This morning I was only called for a half hour of rehearsal in the morning, because I had my final performance of Gypsy. When I accepted the internship I told them about the conflict of performances and I was a little worried how it would go over once I got here. They’ve been very understanding, and I was worried for nothing.
5/29
I don’t feel very well. My throat is scratchy and this brings down my whole mood. Even though I don’t feel very good, it’s Memorial Day, and my only day off this week. A bunch of us are going to Poppam Beach and I’m looking forward to being in the sun.
5/30
Back to work. We blocked a chunk of scenes in Act II in the morning. It’s a huge relief to not have to worry about Gypsy anymore, even though the busy schedule has already taken its toll on my immune system and I have a full blown cold. Very bad timing, in my opinion, to get sick… not that there is a good time. We also had our first run-through of act I today. It went fairly smoothly, and I’m looking forward to adding the technical aspects. After rehearsal the interns had a production meeting for Seussical, and it’s really beginning to generate some excitement. It’s an impossibly huge show, and we have pretty much no time to rehearse it, but I’m still excited. I finally had my audition tonight as well, and I am happy with how I did it. Joyce knew I was sick and loopy and cold medicine, and the medicine aversely reacts my voice because it dries out my chords, but all that aside, I feel like I performed the best I could. When I got back to the intern house I took some NyQuil, because I am going to beat this cold. Now it’s 4:24 am, and the meds wore off, and I’m wired. Hopefully after writing this entry I can get back to sleep.
...more to come, i guess. sorry for taking up so much space on y'all's friends page.
