I'm on chapter 37, and just when I got the rush of extreme excitement of something that looked -however vaguely- of a plot twist, I get back to the normal Let's Defeat Rahl theme.
What am I talking about? I'm talking about that random village that got demolished, people killed and children raped that is a hallmark of fantasy everywhere. I think it was a mill. Doesn't matter, I was giggling like a little girl once I found out the Westerners (the people who doesn't know squat about magic and those accused of slaughter) aren't really attacking anyone; it's just Rahl showing that trademark "I'll kill my own people for this". It's such a massive cliche I couldn't even be angry. I was just laughing.
But hey, it would have been really cool. Why? Here's a few perfectly normal people fighting others who sent fireballs at will--with aggression. That would've been cool.
And besides, I enjoy more than one faction of antagonist-y in a book. I like it when there's Sauron and Saruman, and Sauron is using Saruman because if he didn't, Saruman would totally top Sauron over. Get it? The more enemies the merrier I always say!
I just can't be angry anymore. I've lost all that and the only thing left for me is to laugh. It's ironic, considering that Richard Cypher, a very person is powerful through the Power of Anger, and Kahlan is powerful through the Power of Love. I think there's a trope for that, too.
There's also a few crapsack philosophies on how everyone is stupid and want to believe whatever makes them comfortable. This coming from a person who talks down at children and bends his prose to prove it. Children aren't dumb. I know very intelligent, very aware children who are more than able to talk for themselves and make reasonable moral choices.
Seriously...as I said, the world is only hanging together by Magic!, and it's funny considering the author, Terry Goodkind hates Magic! and all supernatural. Mr.Goodkind must have realized that the world won't operate by his logic, so he used Magic! to justify it.
And yay for no gray factions.
I bet Michael, Richard's brother is going to be evil. I bet that from the second I heard how inconsiderate he is.
No matter. It's all crap. It's funny crap though, and I'll continue on it.
Sorry, Lccorp, Bram Stoker, George R.R. Martian, Robert Jordan, Steven Burst, it bothers me, too.
How many things should I put on hold until this is done?!
stories,
sword of truth,
reading,
funny
