For anyone who shares my luv for my red maple leaf mittens, here's a quick and inexpensive matching scarf you can knit up in one or two evenings of Olympics-watching:
2 skeins of Lion Brand Homespun yarn, color #375, Candy Apple (matches the pinkish-red of the mittens)
size 19 knitting needles
Using two strands of yarn throughout, cast on 13 stitches.
Row 1: knit all stitches
Row 2: 1x1 rib across (knit one, purl one, ending with knit 1)
Repeat rows 1 and 2 until you run out of yarn, leaving enough to bind off.
I haven't finished mine yet, but it should be 5-6' long when finished. Very soft and drapey, and does not curl up. I may even need a matching hat soon.
