Don't expect a proper entry until I come home. My environment isn't conducive to writing. I'm always in net cafes these days. My shift key is broken so I'm going to stop using capital letters right now if you don't mind. some guy is talking way too loud in some asian language (not japanese) over the sound of celine dion singing: "when you touch me like this and you hold me like that...."
i love cairo. i hate cairo. my lungs will be very happy to go home, but my heart will be sad. oh it's the greatest hits album i see-- "near! far! whereeeeever you are!"
everything is such a headache here. thats why i didnt go out for like my first month here.
today we went to the pyramids in dahshur. i told the taxi driver the pyramids in dahshur for LE125. he took us to the pyramids in giza. i said i want to go to dahshur! he said that will take 3 hrs. but he took us there, asking directions along the way. it took like 30-45 minutes or something.
the pyramids were pretty impressive, in the middle of nowhere, with desert all around, exactly how one would (wrongly) imagine the pyramids in giza to look like. there was this annoying police officer who followed us around, chattering. i liked being in the desert, but the pyramids were pretty meh, i dont understand what the hype is. i mean, you can just look at a pic in nat geo.
he was touchy and his hands were rough and dirty. he asked me where i was from, and i said shubra, so he started singing a song about how great the girls of shubra are. he also kept saying, america, america good! i kept telling him i want to walk alone, i want silence, no sound, but he kept bugging us. finally he left. there was also a guy on a camel trying to get us to pay for a ride. i said i don't want to. he said: i dont understand, its a holiday, you must ride a camel! and then i realized its christmas here. merry christmas y'all.
then i used the bathroom there. it was a squatter, covered in water and brown with old shit and jesus knows what. pretty nasty.
"cause i'm your lady, and you are my man"
on the way back, we had a prolonged argument with the driver about the price. he said he wanted more. we said no no no. im sure we were already paying too much.
ah silence.
tonight im sposed to go to my sudanese student's house and hang out. i dont really want to. i kinda want to sleep. i keep thinking about bacon. the other day i ate a really good pork mortadello sandwich at maison thomas, a restaurant run by christians
everythings falling apart all of a sudden-- the water, the sink, the shower, the tv volume, etc. etc. yesterday i was confused because i saw that the back of my hand had dirt on it. i was like- where could that be from? then i remembered i had wiped my nose on it. yeah. disgusting. i told my arabic teacher my snots are dirty. and she said no thats natural. jesus mariah and carey take me home!
lekkin al-humdulillah i go to siwa friday!
