Last night, we took the plunge and purchased a modern-generation console. After considering an X-Box (not necessarily a 360) and the current Playstation offerings (2's are way down in price, but the 3's are simply insane!), we settled on Nintendo's latest excursion into the video game world. The games are more interactive than standard, because you actually move as you play; your body can determine the success or failure of a move! The Kat went out to purchase it... and the surprising thing is, with everything she bought, extras included, we still didn't match the price of a core system for PS3!
We now own the Wii, it's basic 5-sport game disc, a training disc that includes eight other simple "games" on it (including a really cool upgrade of that old favourite, Duck Hunt!), 2K's baseball offering, The Bigs, the newest Pokemon vg, and last, but not least, Harry Potter V for Wii. Expensive, yes, but if we can do things like family sports tournaments without leaving the comfort of our home, then it's "worth it." We also have two sets of controls, which are neat, and if friends bring over GameCube games with wireless controllers, we can play them, too!
The modern game systems are expensive, but I have to admit that this is quite the upgrade from our old N-64 which the kids played almost to pieces! And, as I say, you can't really sit on your butt and play this one. As I write, The Kat and Sir Goobs are playing video golf - I couldn't get The Kat on a real golf course with chains and/or chocolate!
Fun, fun, fun!
And when one actually gives up a baseball game because one is beating one's oldest 32-1... well, there's a certain sick satisfaction in that!
