Weekend Wrapup

Not a very inspiring title, but not every weekend has an overarching theme or lends itself to a catch phrase...
  • Headed out into the fog Saturday morning, and hit a variety of spots trying to find a picture... May have gotten one or two, but I'm still going through them.

  • Laurie came over Sat morning to fit some sewing she's doing for us, including some new trews for me. (A labor swap for the mold-and-deckle I mentioned a while back.) Her husband caught up with us on his way home from a [scuba] dive down in Tacoma, and we hit the Red Apple Diner for a very nice lunch.

  • On Sunday I got my corned beef in the pickle, along with some I'm making for various friends. (Almost fifteen pounds o' beef!) I also laid down some experimental chili spice pickled beef that Aaron wanted. Since most chili flavor is fat soluble, especially the capsaicin that carries the heat, I'm not entirely certain how this will come out... still, you never know unless you try!

  • In between all of this, we watched quite a bit of the World Baseball Classic games. The USA-Italy and USA-Canada games were especially good, and we pulled through both of them despite the team's inability to consistently generate any kind of an offense. Japan-Netherlands was painful to watch... Japan was expected to be a scrappy Cinderella against a more powerhouse Netherlands, but Japan ripped it open on the second pitch and never looked back. (There was a shot of the Netherlands GM and bench coach in the 5th with both looking shell shocked... that almost never happens, they're usually stone faced no matter what's happening on-field.) Japan faces them again tomorrow, which should be an interesting game.
