D&D gamers have a superstitious and paranoid belief in the whimsical (and hateful) personalities of dice. They like you or they hate you. They can become cursed. They lord over the fates of our characters like aloof yet sadistic polyhedral deities. But they have weaknesses of their own, apparently.

I recall with amused glee a gaming session from weeks past, where I, dissatisfied with the performance of my regular dice, picked up Shawna's cute little rose quartz dice on a whim. They apparently did not appreciate being manhandled after spending so much time languishing lazily in the dice bowl, with the d20 giving me two 1's within five rolls. At that point, I took the time to casually point out to it that, as rocks go, quartz isn't really all that hard. Needless to say, I didn't roll below 16 the rest of the evening. :)
