About the cutting thing.. yeah it is idiotic, but I myself have done so.. It does infact relieve emotional stress, you can't say it doesn't.. because you haven't done it. But it is stupid. I have, I know people who have, and well.. I'm not sure I can tell you the point of it. It's easier to understand when you're depressed and in the action, I guess.. Maybe for some people it's about the scars. And other people are simply masochists.

Nice pic! I think alot (definitly not all) of people who cut themselves do so to test there limits. See how much pain they can take. It takes alot of guts to cut yourself. And doing so can be a test of your will. BUT i do agree with ya that its not the answer to depression or relieving emotional pain. Also doing it for attention. You might not agree with me. Then again it's juat an opinion.
