Picspams from the last UEFA Cup match on the 22nd of February from the Leverkusen-Blackburn game and the Werder-Ajax game. Congratulations to both Leverkusen and Werder for advancing into the round of 16!!! *squishes*

He believes he can fly~ *I'm sorry . . . I just couldn't resist xD*

It's really rude to shove your hands into someone's face you know. Even if you're playing football. You could accidentally poke someone's eye out . . .

Ah the fight near the end. Why do they have to fight anyways? Who started the fight??????? Was it the Leverkusen side? (I hope not) Even the ref. couldn't get in under control -.- *sigh* Adults these days . . . xD

Please excuse the watermarks -.- *glares at watermarks*

I've been seeing a lot of these two in the same pics lately. Hmm . . .

Aww . . . Miro *joins in hugging him*

Again, please excuse these grotesque watermarks . . . -.-

Rovers crash out in bad-tempered stalemate

Blackburn's European adventure ended amid driving rain and acrimony last night when Mark Hughes's determined players were out-thought by technically superior opponents. Even so Michael Skibbe's sassy side did well to resist a second-half onslaught after largely controlling a first half in which the increasingly tetchy Rovers manager was tactically outsmarted.

As the emotional temperature rose, Leverkusen were forced to rely on a little too much time-wasting and play-acting for the liking of the locals, but Hughes later admitted: "We gave it everything but they were very good in possession and clever on the counterattack.

"I would have liked the referee to be a bit stronger but wasting time and falling down theatrically are part of the European game and we've got to learn from this."

A delighted Skibbe, who had Juan to thank for an outstanding defensive performance, was thus able to indulge in a dig at the Premiership. "The Bundesliga is as good as any league in Europe," the Leverkusen manager said. "Teams we meet in the Uefa Cup aren't going to be better than those we face at home. This was a great European night for us - we started well and finished the job."

Skibbe had promised that Leverkusen would not sit back and protect their first-leg lead but his tactics were hardly gung-ho and they stifled David Dunn's and Tugay Kerimoglu's creative scope, the best individual on view being Bernd Schneider who, deployed wide on the left, prompted most of their best moves.

Although Andrej Voronin held the ball up well enough he was frequently isolated up front and their best two first-half chances fell to Schneider. First there was the whipped free-kick which required Brad Friedel to save smartly, then came a shot which swerved narrowly off target.

Blackburn's best hope rested with Morten Gamst Pedersen, the Norwegian curling one just over and another fractionally wide of an upright, and Benni McCarthy also had a shot deflected wide.

The second half saw Jörg Butt fully involved, the keeper doing well to repel a glancing header from David Dunn as Rovers succeeded in forcing more of a pace, leaving Leverkusen to respond with a series of well timed defensive blocks. Even so Juan would have been helpless to prevent a goal had McCarthy managed to make contact with a superb first-time cross from Pedersen.

With tension mounting, the Spanish referee struggled to restore order after Pedersen and Carsten Ramelow indulged in some argy-bargy which ended with Ramelow rolling on the ground clutching his head. Most other outfielders piled in for a frank exchange of views but Undiano Mallenco regained control by booking Stephen Warnock and Sergej Barbarez.

Hughes then unleashed a fourth striker in Jason Roberts but Blackburn's European odyssey was fast approaching its end. "When we wake up tomorrow we'll maybe think we could have done some things better," the Rovers manager said.

"I would have liked the referee to be a bit stronger but wasting time and falling down theatrically are part of the European game and we've got to learn from this."

Mark Hughes, Blackburn's manager said that. How dare he . . . . I'm offended. Sore loser. *grumbles*

Warning, pics are not dial up safe. And beware of the watermarks of doom!
