[There's a new face on the SFC. Said face looks calm, controlled, relaxed. Certainly not quite fitting of a newcomer.]

I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Seimei.

[He gives a brief nod to the camera.]I arrived quite some time ago, but things were rather... hectic. I've been informed on the details of this place, however ( Read more... )

Cat ears, not something you encounter through the universe often.

...They're not "cat" ears.

They look pretty feline to me.

Please don't compare them to an animal's ears.

Pardon me.

So what are they, in that case?

In my world, they mark virginity.

What an odd ritual.

[He chuckles, and rolls his eyes.]

They're not a ritual. They're a part of my biology.

It's a ritual for your world, isn't it? It still counts.

[He switches to text, if only for a brief moment;]

ritual (ˈrɪtjʊəl)
- n
1. the prescribed or established form of a religious or other ceremony
2. such prescribed forms in general or collectively
3. stereotyped activity or behaviour
4. (psychology) any repetitive behaviour, such as hand-washing, performed by a person with a compulsive personality disorder
5. any formal act, institution, or procedure that is followed consistently: ex. the ritual of the law

Which is to prove that it could in fact be called a ritual. Not of person, but of world. It is a ritual for your world to have the humans inhabiting it be born with feline-like ears in order to display virginity.

Once the individual has lost their virginity I am guessing you lose them-- which sounds ominous and awkward, by the way. It is the act that brings the ritual to a close for the individual.

Am I wrong?

Yes, because what your describing as an intentional act or behavior is a biological function as natural as your hair growing or your baby teeth falling out.

The only part of it that would be accurately described as a "ritual" is the act of losing one's virginity, and while that causes the loss of one's ears and tail, that does not make the loss of the ears specifically a "ritual". It is a biological function.
