notes. really unsure about this, but, what the heck? :p (unbeta’d.) feedback is ♥.
She is someone else’s lost puzzle piece.
It doesn’t mean he’s not allowed to keep her.
-
She doesn’t talk about herself in full sentences.
He wears scars like layers of clothing; she runs fingers over the puckered skin as daylight meddles with a clock and his skin shines dully like fake diamonds.
She doesn’t ask for stories, simply makes up her own. She rambles comments about gangs and bars; his apprehension rises with meteors and farm boys and super evil bald villains.
-
She asks questions.
“I had Alice,” his mouth twists and an empty fortress aches within his chest, “had her for a long time.”
Lois purses her lips, coffee cradled in her hands, and shrugs “I had Clark,” sips her coffee and he feels a tear within her beating chest. She’s a piece of paper being torn apart by the hands of Smallville.
He tries to lift up the corners of her mouth with “Now I have you.”
-
Jasper waits.
There’s not much progress.
Her skin is rough for reasons like his own; army and orders and strict guidelines to living life carve marks into soft tissue without the merit of healing properly.
-
He doesn’t like altering her.
He doesn’t soften the blow of the pressure edging itself into her faltering heart.
(He likes the echo within his own.)
-
He doesn’t discover her scars until it’s much later.
He sees them at night, when the moon kisses the stars and wind lifelessly howls at glass windows.
His fingers skim over smooth flesh; bruised and freckled. Like buried treasure, they lurk deeper than the surface.
-
Jasper starts living by rules.
Finders keepers, losers weepers is one of them.
