And she walks down the street
doesn't know what she sees
she'll just keep walkin' on and on
she'll stumble and fall
over the rocks in her path
but that's just the way the journey goes
and there's nothing she can do
nothing she can do
nothing she can do
to fight it
she sits down on a bench
and lo and behold
rain starts to pour down from the sky
her clothes get soaked
her hair's a mess
she doesn't think it can get any worse than this at all
but she's wrong
always wrong
seems like nothin' can ever go right
and she can't do anthing right
the sun has gone
gone gone gone
behind the clouds
that are as dark as night
she wishes she had an umbrella
she sees them walk by
they're walking down the street
down the street
they don't see
they won't stumble and fall
they're too close
holdin' on for dear life
but that's just how the journey goes
and there's nothing she can do
nothing she can do
she knows they don't mean to be cruel
she knows they're just trying to hurry on home
but it'd be nice
if just one of them would stop
if just one of them would notice she's there
just give her a hand up
hand her the umbrella
and offer to walk her back to her place
but they don't see her
they won't see her
it's like she's just a ghost
The seconds turn into minutes and the minutes into hours
she's still on the bench
cold and dripping wet
she shivers a little
she stares down at the puddles forming in the street
she feels like crying
no one would see
no one would see
no one would see anyway
so she stands
she gets back on her feet
no one's gonna save her
no one's going to give her a smile
she stands tall
she puts on a grin
she makes her way back to that
tiny one bedroom
where no one's waiting for her
where no one's worrying
but that's ok
she's got her pride and dignity
and if no one's gonna save her
then she's gonna rescue herself
she's gonna reach deep inside
tell herself all these things that she doesn't believe
and one day
many years later
she'll look back on this cold, wet, and rainy evening
and she'll smile, maybe even laugh
because it's ok now
now she believes
and now she walks down the street
knows what she sees
she'll just keep walkin' on and on
she's graceful and light on her feet
only bumps in the road
but that's just the way the journey goes
and there's nothing she can do
but fight it and keep standin' tall
