Jungle Warfare
Stephen DeVay
It’s those times when you’re tired
That the memories creep up on you.
Those times of complete exhaustion
That recollections from the past
Walk out from the crevices of the brain.
Reason becomes engulfed in thought
About the old days.
The emotions of the time
Saturate the mind, and flood the eyes.
During well staged attacks,
By the memories,
Damn eyelids break
And the tears fall.
Each one a thought,
A memory,
A time you kept locked inside,
Because you never wanted to forget.
With each falling droplet
You’re reminded of the agony
Or the ecstasy of that reflection.
Sometimes both.
When the lake is dried out
And the time comes to mop your eyes
Throw away only the tissue.
Keep the memories forever.
