I am fast asleep
When the phone rings.
It's my beloved daughter.
Calling from halfway across the world.
Often, neither of us is free
To talk, really TALK
When the other calls.
Today...both of us have the time
We exchange words, while across the earth
Our hearts and souls reach out
And touch each other.
We think alike on some points.
We laugh together about silly things.
We differ on some issues.
But nothing affects the deep love
That glows, like a precious gem,
Between us.
Problems are discussed.
They may, or may not,
Have solutions.
Finally, we both have to end the call.
My mobile phone is cordless...
But the emotional umbilical cord
Stretches thousands of miles
And cocoons my daughter for a while
In the warmth of maternal affection.
Understanding, and encouragement.
