The general idea of the birdrace is for each team to independently go out birding from morning till the evening on the day of race. You could visit any place around Bangalore.
We have a get together in the evening at Royal Orchid Hotel, Manipal Centre, off Dickenson road.
All the teams are requested to use eBird to submit their observations. Please remember to share the checklists with 'bangalorebirdrace' ID

Karthika from Deloitte, who is auditing the event on behalf of HSBC, joined us with her husband Kunal and her son Neil. So we were 14 of us, going around in a large gang..it was great fun. They left after breakfast post our visit to Mavathur Lake and the rest of us carried on looking at all the lakes on the way back to Bangalore. All the lakes (especially Harohalli!) have a lot of trash, but the birds were there, too.
My detailed plan:
0500 hrs, Jean and Maarten arrive in their cab. Shalini arrives in her car. Jay arrives in her car with Savitha and Valli.
0510 am departure from Casa Ansal (Deepa, Jean, Maarten Praveen, Savitha, Valli). We pick up Padma opp Sindoori on ORR. We then meet Damini and Naveen at

We then sit in the three cars as per the seat allocation I am giving . It is given in the spreadsheet too.

Car Seating to be done at the Kanakapura Road meeting point

I have given a lot of thought to this seating arrangement, so please, no discussion about it! (I am Adolf Hitler about this.)
We usually stop for chai/coffee at Hegde Condiments on Kanakapura Road. Location:

If it is not open at that hour, we will look for another stop, probably at Harohalli.
Stop for biobreak at some petrol pump on the way, before Mavathur.
Parking point at Mavathur Kere:

All binoculars to be brought out, DSLRs and lenses to be set up at this point.
Snacks: just before the Mavathur Kere trail., since by then we will be hungry!...I budget arrival at the parking point by 7am . We would have been awake for several hours by then!)
Breakfast on our return will be at Mandarthi Gardenia (reasonably good food, can serve all of us at once, reasonably clean toilets)

We will be looking at Harohalli, Gabbadi, Kaggalahalli and Kaggalipura Lakes (all on Kanakapura Road) while returning.
Costs: Fuel costs to be shared with the owner of the car, and other passengers. Breakfast charges. Any other expenses you may incur (coconut water etc) Kanakapura Road doesn't have tolls. Also, USD 5,00,000 per person, to be paid into my Swiss bank account.
Discussion will be opened by 2pm on 20th Jan '24. All suggestions/corrections/condemnations welcome then!
Naveen took us to the new Vasu at Kanakapura, and it was not up to expectations, so brefus at Mandarthi. Lunch at Veg. Gate was delayed as Jay had a puncture and Naveen went to help her. Padma and Praveen stayed with Jay while the mechanic could not release the nut holding the spare wheel, and took the tire, had the puncture repaired, and brought it back. We reached Casa Ansal at nearly 5pm. Karthika picked up Valli, Praveen and myself and we went for the dinner gathering. Praveen left without eating anything to catch his train from Cantonment. We reached home after the dinner at about 9.30pm. I was knocked out.
Padma had a headache all through, Jay was nursing her knee wound from a fall on her cycle a couple of days earlier.
