Observations on a bus ride

My journey on a BMTC (Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation) bus

Still uncomfortable being in a crowded area.

Two girls sitting and discussing the nail polish which one of them has bought.

Several people lost in another world, in their mobile phones.

A young family, the mother in a burqa, with two children next to her, the daughter fast asleep and the son squeezed on the seat between his mother and sister.

Realization of how tough the driver's job is, in the stop-and-go traffic, with all kinds of vehicles swarming around the bus.

A conductor who has no hesitation in asking a 68-year-old lady (me) to vacate "his" seat.

Several men getting on and worming their way to the back of the bus (except for Volvo buses, all buses have the front part reserved for ladies, and some actually have two seats reserved for women senior citizens).

A loud argument breaking out at the back of the bus,... not able to see who and why!

Various landmarks passing, and one brightly lit "kalyana mantapa" (wedding hall) which has Durga Puja being celebrated in it.

Thoughts of the transience of passengers being very like the passage of life, with people coming and going.

I alight at my stop, with a final observation about how high and elderly-unfriendly the steps of the bus are.
