Hadinaru Kere (Devi Outing), 120323

Mar 12, 2023 22:18

Decided on the Devi Outings group.

Biju, Padma, Shoba,Radhika, Jayashree (Cavery and Vrushali absent, I am behind the camera)

We left at 4am, got on to the Expressway before Modi's visit would close it down. Stopped at Mandya for MCS. Returned via Kanakapura Road. Had Shoba's parathas and pickle at Hip Hop Cafe, which is closing down as footfalls have decreased since the Expressway opened. Sugarcane juice at the lake western side. Met Cheenu Narasimhan and Gayatri. Saw Prof Raghuram and his wife. Watched a religious procession and various rites connected with the temple.

On the way back, because the Expressway was closed, we took more than 4 hours to return. We stopped to eat the delicious parathas and chutney (with chilli pickle) that Shoba had made, at a place called Hip Hop Cafe.

Pradeep was managing the cafe and told us that thanks to the opening of the new expressway, customers had dropped a lot and they were about to close. We enjoyed this mural, and the excellent coffee that he made for us:

I got a colourful bus running on three HP (Horse Power)!

We did some shopping at the Mangalore store on our return.

There was a festival at the Kerethadi Kempamma temple at Hadinaru, and I was able to document this religious procession (the men wore jingling bells (gejje), which one cannot hear because of the traffic. In my album I will also post photos of devotees, having bathed, walking into the park in loincloths, and cooking a votive offering by filing pots on the fire with water, and then pouring rice into the boiling pots. All the devotees, whether men or women, had a dip in the kere, and then came with wet clothes to worship the deity.

0109 Clamorous Reed Warbler calling. The call was loud and strident and explained why the bird is so named. https://youtu.be/fhaJpaal_fg
