i realized that i had been so anxious and nervous these past few days because of negative associations i have with my birthday because of last year, when i spent the entire day planning to call someone out as a perpetrator of sexual assault (only to have that fail later) and feeling super alone and unsupported...for some reason, having great birthdays is always really important to me and i was pretty afraid of this one.
but, as it turns out, i have the most amazing friends ever. the sandwich exchange (when you make your favorite sandwich, cut it in half, wrap up the halves and throw them in a bucket, reach in and pull out a random sandwich to eat!) worked out well and i got a bunch of super emotional notes from buddies, great pens and a great tape. yes yes yes. nights like last night make me dread moving out of this house.
