The other day I watched The Princess and the Goblin on YouTube, which is a movie I've never actually seen but I always seem to come across its poster. Well the other day I was all nostalgic and decided to watch it, and I almost stopped. The animation is pretty bad, the framing is weird sometimes, the pacing a little off...but the story was actually pretty refreshing. What I expected to happen did happen but never in a way I expected. The writing was actually well done. I was eager to see what would happen and how things would turn out (though I knew it'd be a happy ending).

Then I went and looked for the original book and found it was written in like 1871! No wonder it was so refreshing, it was written before all those fantasy cliches even took root. Now I have it and its sequel on my wishlist for Amazon and next Amazon-day I'll be sure to get them. It's an interesting idea to look at old stories for new inspiration.
