So It's Con Season

Aug 24, 2007 11:40

In the thick of things, really, and possibly a little late on the uptake. I won't really be doing much in the way of conventions this year. I'm attending AWA to help a dealer friend, and I may briefly visit D*Con to help someone with their wig. Beyond that, no con, no show, no go. It's sad, really. I miss it. It's depressing.

Halloween is coming up, though, and I might be able to do something for that, at least. Fulfill my desire for dressing up, as it were.

I'm also planning things out for next year, so that I won't have the same problem again. I don't like missing out on conventions, or on seeing my friends.

Fortunately, at least one of my plans for next year should be fairly cheap. Another plan I already have the wig for. But wigs are always a problem, and while I'm as much a stickler as the next girl, there are some times when a $15 wig will look just as nice as a $50 one. With ideas of making Latrine from Robin Hood: Men in Tights, I thought it would be best to check out a Halloween Store for something suitable.

They actually have a pretty vast selection of wigs here, and I'm finding it hard to narrow myself down to one that will work for the character. Since I'd need a really crazy, curly, and scraggly gray wig, it makes things pretty difficult. I may have to look elsewhere, just because the wig is so particular (and huge, yow). I'll figure something out, though.

I thought I'd poke around to see if any of their costume accessories gave me some ideas for another random costume. Wow, I didn't even know that many different things were being made. The gloves and leggings look like they would be really useful for a lot of my friends, as I know that it's hard to find 'just the right pair' of gloves or leggings to either match or recreate a costume. The boas look fluffy and fun, too. I think I'm in love with the white dragon costume boa. I don't know what I'd do with it, but darnit, it's nifty!

So, since I can't do anything this year, Sheila (from the old Dungeons and Dragons cartoon) will be pushed back to DragonCon 2008. I'm still considering Latrine, but unless I have tons of other ideas, she'll probably go forward as well. Any other random and cool ideas for costumes that I should do? AWA and DragonCon will probably be the only conventions I attend next year, unless something amazing happens that makes me attend more. Though I'm all for "come to this convention" advice, as you never know what'll happen a year from now.

PS: I totally want the hat/outfit from my icon. Guh.
