Hello. My newest experiment is the Master Cleanse. I started it on Friday and I'm two days in. Essentially what it is, is a liquid diet for 10-20 days, depending on the person. The drink consists of water, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and maple syrup. It's actually surprisingly tasty. It basically provides you with the bare essential vitamins and nutrients. At night I drink a laxative tea, and in the morning I drink a glass of warm water with iodized sea salt. While you are on the cleanse, your body will start to naturally flush itself of all of the various toxins that build in your system over time.
Last week, I began my pre-cleanse diet. It consisted of raw fruits and vegetables, and rice. This was for 7 days. I really enjoyed this period of time. Eating healthy gave me increased clarity and energy. I also lost about 1.5 pounds per day, since my daily routine consists of waking up at 6am, exercising for 45-50 minutes, then riding my bike 4 miles to work. Eating a very healthy diet while having such a high activity level really does wonders for my body.
I've really been craving certain foods. Burgers, pizza, ice cream, meatballs, things like that are common. I dreamed of ice cream last night. My cleanse will go through at least Monday after next. After the cleanse, it's important to follow the post-cleanse diet very carefully. Day 1 will be just continuing the mixture but adding orange juice. Day 2 will slowly add fruits and vegetables for lunch and dinner, and by day 3, I should be able to resume eating meats and things, but I'll be building up the repertoire of foods slowly during that entire week.
Granted I'm not taking in a whole lot of protein right now, but people, in general, ingest far too much protein for their level of activity. Now, if I were to cut out protein from my diet forever, this would have negative side effects in the long term, but this is only for a short time.
If anyone wants more information on the specifics, please let me know. As weight loss is not the goal of a Master Cleanse, it is definitely a positive side effect and works really fast. Some people have been documented to lose up to 3 lbs per day on this diet. Your organs build up a lot of nastyness and plaque over time, and this will definitely cleanse out your system... So much so, that your intestines will even clean themselves of the "good" bacteria. Bacteria that aids in digestion, so this is why the "post cleanse diet" is very important. It helps build these back up. You can also supplement the post-cleanse diet with probiotics.
My body has definitely been flushing itself of a lot of rotten things. It has been feeling great. Believe it or not, I'm not feeling overly hungry. When I have my drink, I actually feel surprisingly satisfied. It's weird to think that I haven't eaten a solid food since lunch on Friday.
