Since lai absolutely refuses to do her Public Law reading (someone save me x.x), here goes.
1) Go Sightseeing
West Minister and the Big Ben.
Can't remember where exactly this was, but it was somewhere near the Palace
Self explanatory, really. Pick up a good guide of the city and hit the major sight seeing points... You can't possibly have visited London without seeing the likes of Big Ben/Buckingham Palace can you? o.O"
2) Shopping
\
Spoils!
Stables Market around the Camden Lock Market area
I think we've been to Primark (this extremely cheap shopping centre of sorts... bad quality, tons of people, but cheap stuff that will last you just that season) too many times for our own good. There's a lot to see along Oxford Street though lai likes going to small street markets instead.
3) Watch a Musical
I swear West End will make me broke one day. Now that I've ticked Phantom off my list of "Must Watch"s, Wicked or Le Mes will probably come next xD
4) Have a Romp in the Parks
Major UCL Singapore Freshers gathering in Regents Park
Kensington Park
The parks are nice, though personally I prefer Regents, maybe because it's really so close to where I stay (about a 15 mins walk to the park). Lots of green, no one screaming at you when you step on the grass, frisbees galore, picnics in the open... and oh yeah, the bone-cutting wind the blows through the park that only crazy Singaporeans sit like idiots in xD
5) Visit the Museums
See the Dinos at the Natural History Museum
Really a lot more to see in the museums here as compared to back home. Maybe one reason why it seems more fun (other than the fact that there are a lot more exhibits over here) is that at least museums aren't empty here (so you don't feel surrounded by dead, inanimate objects all the time... that can get really unnerving. Serves me right for watching both Night in the Museums on the plane here xD), people actually do go to them v.v
6) Go Hiking
lai on top of Box Hill
No more T-shirt+FBTs hikes any more. Pretty nice to get out into the countryside, pick over-ripe berries as you walk and look at the farm animals on the pastures... But the weather and temperature is something you really need to think about. Frankly, I don't really have the gear required for this yet (base layers, waterproof layers, thin layers that still keep you warm, proper walking shoes etc) but meh... There're places like these barely an hour out from London so why not go?
7) Watch Fireworks
Anytime some big event comes around and anywhere they're at (including people in the streets shooting fireworks dangerously close to your Hall), watch the fireworks that go of - on the day of the event... and every day preceding and after that...
8) Cook-ups!
Don't care if it's supposed to be against the rules to even have rice cookers in our possession, Singapore students can't survive on tasteless hall food all year round, we need our Indo mee (incidentally, jump any one going back to Singapore during winter and get them to ship more over \o/)
incidentally...
8.5) Break into your friends' rooms on their birthday and fill the room with balloons to the extent they have no place to move
The helium ones weren't our's... but we DID manually blow all 75 balloons since the pump we found was really too pathetic to do anything. See SG peeps, over here you don't need to fear the various "customs"/"ceremonies" that take place in SG on birthdays... Just the paranoia that all the balloons are gonna blow on you in the middle of the night when you're fast asleep *insert evil laughter here*
9) Get dressed for the occasion!
Get dressed as an Angel on Halloween night and you can pimp all the girls there
Let down your hair, have some fun, but watch the booze (the only qualm I have. Can't stand people out to get drunk)
10) Most importantly, Stay in Contact <3
HCI UK Alumni's Mini-MAF
Go for alumni events, Skype, MSN, FACEBOOK IN CLASS (which all of us are guilty of \o/) but never lose touch with the folks back home.
Miss you guys much and I hope to see you all soon <3
Much love,
-laiyee
