About a Proper Division between Generations

Mar 09, 2009 07:23

Instead of all the Generation X versus Y, I feel a real division occurred in around 1981.

If you were born before then, you got to recognise that you were living in the Cold War, and had the fun of contemplating imminent world destruction. If you were born after then, you missed out, as the Cold War ended in 1989.

Maybe you were a smart kid fully aware of world events, and argue for an exception in your case. Whatever. It's a good rule of thumb.

This becomes pertinent when considering such things as Watchmen which has at it's core the Cold War, which people in their mid-twenties and under will not understand (to the same extent as those of us who perhaps had nightmares about nuclear holocausts.)
