This came out recently on Dilbert. I'm not a huge fan of Dilbert, but I think this is an interesting observation. I've also been thinking about what a friend said about not wanting to discuss salary because he didn't want to know about someone who didn't do as well at school getting a higher salary than him (for perhaps a similar role). Surely if he's being paid below market rate or someone else less qualified has been offered better, then he's entitled to ask for a raise and get more money? And how can he know what the market rate is, if he doesn't even want to talk about it?
