A/N: Sorry, school swamped me with a billions things...Well, this is almost over. Please comment if you haven't! Btw, I have
Tumblr. Masterpost "Zack." Matt paused. "You look like shit, you refuse to talk to me or any of our friends. What's wrong?"
Running his hands through his hair, Zack frowned. He was caught in a dilemma and guilt was gnawing at his insides. His friends didn't like Blake since their relationship had been such a failure and he had been a wreck for months after. Telling Matt that they were back together would most likely cause a storm that he was not prepared to be caught in.
"Seriously, you're being so quiet that it's freaking me out. I haven't seen you this wrecked since Blake."
At the mention of Blake's name, Zack reflexively knitted his brows and bit his lip. His eyes drifted downwards and he heard Matt groan in frustration.
"No. No. You aren't dating him again! We barely got you through it last time!"
Zack stopped biting his lip and looked up into Matt's eyes. They were squinted and he could see the ferocity swirling around in them.
"You have to be dumb if you think I'm going to let him fuck you up again."
Matt stood up and slapped his fist down on the table, opening his hand flat and leaning across it to stare right in his face.
"Did you forget all the nights you used to call me asking if I knew where he was? Did you erase the memories of catching him in the bathroom with some girl or guy at parties? Cause I sure didn't."
Zack closed his eyes tightly and didn't speak. He knew Matt was right, but who was he to judge what he was doing? It was his life to live. If he wanted to date Blake again, he would.
"Matt, Blake isn't like that anymore. He's different." He didn't know if he was lying or not, but he would say whatever it took to get his best friend off his ass. Having another relationship crumble in his hands wasn't something he wanted.
"That's what they all say. But then they do it again, and again. I'm not going to be there to pick up the pieces again."
"You don't have to be. I'm a big boy and I can take care of myself." Zack scooted out of his chair and strode out of Matt's room, out the front door, and into his car. That's where he stayed for a few minutes, leaning his head on the steering wheel, gripping it tightly in his hands.
Before he started up his car, he texted Blake saying he should meet him in ten minutes at the park.
--
He arrived at the park in less than six minutes, so he parked his car and walked to the bench he was supposed to meet Blake at. The bench had been where he had met Blake and became his friend. That was years ago, but the bench still looked the same.
Staring at the keys in his hand, he didn't see Blake slide next to him. He only noticed the other teen was there when Blake draped his arm over his shoulder. Zack was quick to shrug it off and didn't yet turn to face him.
"What the hell did I do now?"
"Nothing. It's me and not you."
Blake sighed, his irritation evident. "I know. You're such a frigid bastard. You're worse than a fucking girl."
Zack whipped his head around to glare at him. "You're such an asshole! I'm done with your bullshit. Fuck you!"
He didn't need to deal with this crap anymore from Blake. Being constantly put down in a relationship was not healthy and the verbal abuse was something he did not want to put up with anymore. Zack knew he was being kind of loud and people were staring, but he didn't care. He was done, so he stood up to leave, but before he could get far he felt a hard yank on his wrist.
Looking down to see what had stopped him, he realized it was Blake's hand clenched around his wrist.
"Let me go!" Glaring daggers at Blake, he saw that the other teen was smiling. Smiling. "Have you lost your fucking marbles?"
"Nope. But the thing is, you have. We aren't over." With the last word said, Blake yanked tightly on Zack's arm and pulled him towards the direction of his car. "Let's go."
Zack struggled, but Blake's hand was in a death grip. "Just let me go!" His ex-boyfriend was going to respond, but was interrupted.
"Hey, asshole! Listen to Zack!"
Both Zack and Blake's head whipped around to stare at the person who had spoken. It was someone Zack would have never expected to see sticking up for him; it was Rian.
"This isn't any of your business." Blake stood still, glaring at him.
Rian inched closer to Blake and stood in front of Zack, who surprisingly had been released from his ex-boyfriend's hand.
"It's my business to stop assholes from hurting people."
Zack saw that they were getting more and more in each other's face and knew that it would be seconds before one of them threw a punch. He didn't want a fight starting so he quickly got in front of Rian.
"Go away Blake. Don't contact me or anyone I know ever again. This is it, for good."
He really should have expected his ex's fist to come flying towards his face, coming into contact with his mouth. But he hadn't.
His face had turned to the side when he had been punched. The taste of copper was filling his mouth and he grimaced. His teeth had scraped the inside of his cheek and it was bleeding heavily. Running his tongue over his lip, he assumed it had been split.
Snarling, Zack turned towards Blake. "You are so fucked up. I knew you'd hit me one day."
Rian was beyond mad. The prick had dared to punch Zack when he hadn't even done anything to deserve it. He was a second away from returning the punch when he felt Zack tugging his hand, leading him away from Blake who still hadn't said anything.
When they were a decent distance away, Zack turned to Rian and muttered a soft 'thanks'.
"It was no problem. Come on, I'll take you to my house. It's only a block away."
Following Rian, he walked down the block, still hand in hand with him. It wasn't until they reached Rian's house did he remember and pull away. Rian frowned slightly at that, but ushered him into the house then into the bathroom.
Grabbing the first aid kid stored in the cupboard, Rian turned towards Zack, who was sitting on the floor, and got to work. He wiped away the drying blood on the boy's lip with a wet rag.
"You sure know how to pick them."
Zack wryly smiled and nodded, wincing when the other teens hands accidentally bumped his busted lip.
"Sorry."
"It's okay."
Rian finished up cleaning his lip and sat down on the bathroom tile in front of Zack.
"I have to ask something. Please don't get mad..I just have to know."
The other teen slowly nodded his head, showing Rian it was okay to proceed.
"Why would you date him and not me?"
Zack froze. He swallowed and he felt like his heart was trying to beat out of his chest. He knew it was now or never.
His voice came out softer than he thought it would. "You were-" He broke off. "You are too good for me."
When he said that, he saw the other boy's face twist in confusion then sadness. The confusion he could understand, but the sadness he couldn't. Apparently, Rian must have felt bad that Zack was so pathetic.
Zack couldn't stand to look at Rian's face any longer without feeling guilty, so he looked down at his hands.
The moment he looked down, he felt a light touch on his chin, guiding his face upwards.
Rian had tilted his face upwards with his hands. He felt his thumb glide over his lip, being careful not to irritate the injured area.
"I'm going to kiss you now, okay?"
Zack gulped and nodded. Rian let go of his face and shifted forward on his knees, placing his lips near to Zack's, before pressing a gentle kiss on them.
Breaking the kiss, both teens opened their eyes and slid away from each other, staring.
Rian spoke first. "My name is Rian Dawson...and I'd like to start over."
Zack smiled when he realized what was happening. "My name is Zack Merrick, and I'd like to know if you'd want to go on a date with me?"
"I'm just warning you. I don't put out on the first date." The short haired teen grinned.
"Oh really?...Cause I've heard some stories... But I can wait."
