This is a compilation of Crossovers in mangakas CLAMP's universe.
In case you don't know about them, CLAMP is an all-female Japanese mangaka group which has earned the title of the "Queens of Shojo". (See more in
https://clamp.fandom.com/wiki/CLAMP). I highly recommend their works because of their beautiful art and their varied and memorable plots.
Note: I won't count any of the Wonderland works and the kinds; also, many doujinshis and original works are impossible to find and therefore will be left out as well.
Warning: MANY SPOILERS!!!
1987 Shining Star
A One-shot and Clamp's first original work that already sets at "Clamp School", which appears at a few of their older mangas and it's a central piece of Clamp's universe.
Taichiro Imonoyama-sensei is the main character, a man who falls for another man, Shura-sensei.
Taichiro is Nokoru Imonoyama's uncle, who appears with his co-starts of his own manga Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan, 1992, that also sets at Clamp School, actually built by Imonoyama's family, surely the richest family in Clamp's universe.
And Shura-sensei may not have the exact same name but he looks exactly the same as Ashura-ou from 1989 RG Veda, and well, they share the same son.. or daughter, Ashura.
They also mention that they came from India and Rg-Veda manga is well known for its Vedic mythology style.. Hinduism... well... India.
1990 20 mensho ni onegai
It can be seen as a sub-plot of 1992 Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan since it tells the love story of Akira Ijuin, Nokoru Imonoyama's friend and employee who, in this separated story, is actually a famous unidentified thief; Here, new characters appear and a lot and yet too little is revealed about Akira's family.
In one hand, Clamp School and Nokuru's team makes a small appearance, since it's not the main story in this manga.
In the other hand, 20 Mensho gets barely mentioned in Clamp Tentai's manga (lets keep in mind that it's sadly incomplete), but he has a full episode in the anime.
1992 Duklyon: Clamp School Defenders
This is another sub-plot for 1992 Clamp Gakuen Tanteidan, but even funnier since it's a parody about a group of students superheroes which protect Clamp School, led by a mysterious man... is Nokoru, come on!
Yet, in the manga of Clamp Tanteidan they are merely "mentioned" but they do have proper appearances in the Anime.
1992 X 1999
Although the main story is about Kamui and the end of the world coming with the new millennium, we also get a glimpse of a continuation of Tokyo Babylon 1990. We get to see an older Subaru still chasing after Seishiro and both of them taking part in the plot of this manga.
Matured Nokoru and his two loyal subordinates, from 1992 Clamp School Detectives, again along with the Clamp Campus itself, also take an important part in the plot of the manga but are terrebly replaced by an old guy with a mustache in the animated version.
1993 Magic Knight Rayearth
Another work which shows Clamp's love for Tokyo Tower and girls' power.
There is only one crossover here but if you only watched TRC and Xxxholic, 2003, then you may want to read this manga because here there is the actual origin of the lovely Mokona... in a way. Don't worry, Yuko explains it.
1995 Fushigi no kuni no Miyuki-chan
Clamp love challenge and proving they can do anything, so here they presented their first ecchi manga, with plenty of sexiness and yuri. It's short and aims for funny and, though I don't think this counts as a crossover at all, I add it just in case any fan cares. Here is 1992's X 1999.
1999 Angelic Layer
Very cool and futuristic dolls rule the toys industry, a theme we can relate to Chobits, 2000; in this later one we will actually find a stated connection between these two, but not in Angelic; here, we only find the original universe of the brand Puffle Princess that appeared in 1992's X/1999 and will appear later in 2005's Kobato and many other works (so you can try a Wnd play Find Waldo with this one).
We also have a mini-crossover of another seemingly famous brand, belonging to another universe of Clamp, 1992's Duklyon: Clamp School Defenders.
2000 Lawful Drug
More yaoi but just the same to the later XxxHolic 2003, which actually makes an appearance here. So, if you like supernatural mistery, this work is a must read.
A character very loved but not much used by Clamp, Hinata from 1999's Suki Dakara Suki, makes an appearence here as well, along with 1993's Angelic Layer's popular brand.
And we also have a very fundamental collaboration with Wish, 1996.
2000 Chobits
Futuristic dolls with no brand but a clear connection with Angelic Layer, 1999. We can fairly assume this story is placed some time ahead in the future of Angelic because of the mention of some of its characters:
The first clue is a bit vague, we see Kaede and the back of Misaki and Sai.
But, in the end, Clamp give us a clear explanation.
Please, folks, play Find Waldo with this brand, 1992's Duklyon: Clamp School Defenders.
2003 Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles
Just Clamp's biggest mess of universes; now, to FULLY understand XxxHolic 2003, you MUST read this one since here you'll find all the explanations, the whole existence of Xxxholic is only because of Tsubasa... So, struggle and read them at the same time. ALSO, we get a bit about 1996's Cardcaptor Sakura Clow's dead, and you can challenge yourself to see how many Crossovers you recognize. Here some, though there are many more, including objects and symbols:
From Cardcaptor Sakura 1996, the looks of Tomoyo, Touya Yukito, Fujitaka, Nadeshiko, Yamazaki and the original existence of Clow, Sakura and Shaoran.
Again, sadly, 2003's Xxxholic was created solemnly to 'explain' TRC, so we'll see a lot of Yuko and Watanuki. Other very important but "fake" appearances are Shura-o (RG-Veda, 1989), Chii (Chobits, 2000), Subaru (Tokyo Babylon, 1990) and Kamui (X/1999, 1992).
A very interesting crossover is the one in the world called Tokyo. There, we have 2 rival groups in a post-apocalyptic world... If it wasn't for the change of important characters, I would think this was a continuation of 1992's X/1999. Is it only me?
You can play "Find Miyuki-chan" (Fushigi no kuni no Miyuki-chan, 1995) because she's undoubtedly in every single world! We can also see the cute cats from Kakyo No Chikyu Seifuku Nikki, 2002, Hikaru, Fuu and Umi, Caldina, Emeraude and Primera (Magic knight rayearth, 1993) and Hikaru, Kaedo and Sai (Angelic layer, 1999)
Gods and Sanyun (Magic knight rayearth, 1993) with Masayoshi (Clamp School Detectives, 1992), Nekoi, Kusanagi, Sorata and Arashi(X/1999, 1992), Oruha (Clover, 1997), Soma, Ryu o and Ashura (Rg veda, 1989); all of these are "false/other existences" appearances.
2003 XxxHolic
Since its existence is merely to make 2003's Tsubasa possible, it's nothing weird that these works came out at the same time and that if you read this one alone, you won't understand anything of its second half.
Again, the main crossover is with Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles and, with a mischievous explanation, Magic Knight Rayearth's Mokona (1993).
We also have many other crossovers, some important some not so much.
Clamp's novel Yumegari, 1996, and also 2000 Chobits's ears and Atashi book.
Elements from Cardcaptor Sakura, 1996, which explanations are in Tsubasa, Lawful Drug, 2000, and the brand from Duklyon: Clamp School Defenders, 1992.
2005 Kobato
When so many crossovers appear in the same work, it makes you feel like you're in the presence of a "Tsubasa #2". I will say that as long as the main characters are NEW, it is not a "Tsubasa 2". In my opinion, the appearance of so many crossovers in Kobato is to give fans what they want and, also, to remark that "the same soul can exist in different dimensions", because this is a key concept in this Kobato's plot.
A very important character is Usagi-san, which they called Momo in Wish, 1996, which is a messanger of God in both works... and a costume in CCS, 1998:
We also have some minor appearances:
Hiroyasu Ueda and Yumi Ohmura (Chobits, 2001), Hinata Asahi and Shirou Asou (Suki dakara suki, 1999), Angelic Layer, CCS 1996, XxxHolic 2003 and Dunklyon 1992.
Oh, and if I ever see a lightpole right against a wall, I will pass in between like Ioryogi and 2003's Xxxholic did!
We can also see a different fate for Chitose and friends from 2001's Chobits:
And a continuation of Wish, 1996:
In the anime, we can see some of the mentioned crossovers but not all of them. And there are some extra ones:
Apart from "re-using" characters, and elements like wings, eggs and penguins, Clamp also re-use family compositions, like many sisters for one brother (like for Syaoran and the manga, Derayd), twins like Maru and Moro from
Chobits and Souhu and Hien (X/1999), or the lack of one or both parents, romance between same-sex people, no-gender people, etc. This is, in part, their essence, what makes any of their works memorable and recognizable, and also their very intention to leave some meaningful message while breaking some standars.
