Book club

I was just thinking earlier today that I would really like a book club where I didn't have to read a book every month.  Where we could just hang out & talk about books we like, & get ideas for new books to read.  Maybe with a theme every month, like "books with the best drinking in them," or "most misogynistic book you ever read," or "books that ( Read more... )

That sounds like fun to me, too. I am too likely to happily re-read the same stuff over and over again, so new material is always welcome. Someone very wise and amusing in my life said the other day (upon catching me re-reading) that the second read helps you notice things you missed the first time, but anything after that "is just porn." Of course, that doesn't mean it is a bad thing. : ) Still, I do try to branch out a little.

As for some of your suggestions:

The most misogynistic book I have ever read is Legends of the Fall, which is a collection of novellas (one of which the movie is based on) and man, does that guy have some issues!

A book that would have been better if they hadn't gotten so bogged down in didactics is The Perfect Storm. Seriously, I couldn't finish that thing.
