The final battle had brought them and their ragged number to the edges of Karakura, the invaders driven out to a field they held much more dear. The arrancar didn't bother to hide their reiatsu. It was no secret that they were here after all.
It was cold in that creeping, desperate sort of way and Ulquiorra stood alone on the field as the first flakes of snow began to drift down, whipping along on the breeze before one finally caught on his outstretched hand, melting against his equally white skin.
"You ready?" A voice ripped apart the silence as Grimmjow stepped to his side.
"I've been ready since the day Aizen-sama granted me a sword to extinguish them with," Ulquiorra intoned, dark green eyes turning to meet fiercer blue ones, "Are you?"
"Always."
