Rating: PG-13
Summary: Mayuri reflects in the groggy aftermath.
Author's Notes: XD; Random pairing speedfic challenge. ... |D; And it did turn out... strange.
Mayuri isn't quite sure how it happened. As far back as he can remember since that one ill-fated night of Nemu's conception, he's disavowed any sort of relationship, especially of the sexual sort. There's no point in engaging in anything of the sort. He has his interests and wasting his time with such a base and animalistic thing as copulation or even the simple act of courting another. He had allotted more than enough time for that to occur and regretted every second of it.
So now, watching her bare chest rise and fall as she sleeps, he almost has to laugh at himself. To think that he wasted his time with this, with her. He remembers the night, the way her long dark hair seemed to be everywhere and yet not the irritation that he thought it might be. He remembers the gentle way she half-smiled up at him with that sickening near-sweetness she gave everything in her life. He remembers the smooth skin of her thighs as she wrapped them tightly around him, just as her arms had likely wrapped around the shoulders of countless patients and, often, even nurses who had lost their nerves on their first day.
He should feel disgusted. He should feel unclean. He should be untangling himself from the stained sheets (He'd have to throw them away when he got up. He should have thought to clean them after the drain of afterglow slipped through them.) But, just for a few minutes, his fingers that have saved and taken lives with surprising ease wrap around the firm cushion of his pillow. He waits, watching as her chest begins to rise and fall at a different rate.
She's closer to waking now, making soft sounds. He's seen it before, although he's never been this close. He reaches over as she opens her eyes, flicking a few stray dark hairs away from her breast and rises.
"Nemu's probably made breakfast if you’re hungry," he says, blandly. The disgust sets in as he brushes away the sheets and heads to the shower as she blinks into wakefulness.
That look in her eyes when she first opened them will stay with him far longer than he'll ever want it to.
